A total of 587 residents cast their vote in yesterday’s referendum, a turnout of 41.51%
That was massively more than the turnout for recent neighbourhood plan referendums in Wealden, which have ranged between around 20% to 30%
The question voted on was:
“Do you want the South Downs National Park Authority to use the Neighbourhood Plan for the parish of East Dean and Friston to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?”
The results were:
Yes 557 votes (representing 94.89% of all votes cast)
No 30 votes (representing 5.11% of votes cast)
This now means that the South Downs National Park Planning Authority must “make” (adopt) the plan as soon as is reasonably practical, bringing it into legal force.
